Dying the Leather It is perfectly acceptable and, in many cases, preferable to let the leather naturally take on an aged color from oiling and sunlight. However, if dying is desired, a spirit dye can be used or vinegroon, which creates a chemical reaction to color the leather. If a spirit dye is used it is recommended to do so before stitching to avoid dying the linen thread. However, a homemade vinegroon can be used prior to or after stitching. There are many vinegroon recipes online. For my personal use, I prefer rusty bits / nails and apple cider vinegar. |
